28 November 2011   Ian was awarded an MA in History from the University of Essex. He also won the inaugural John S. Appleby Memorial Prize for the best essay or dissertation about an Essex history topic.

4 June 2011   Ian was presented with his Certificate of Continuing Education in Local Historical Studies at the University of Essex - one of only three students to have attained the qualification
7 October 2010   National Poetry Day.
26 September 2010   Ian was awarded Professional membership of the British Computer Society having completed over 20 years' service in the IT industry.
30 June 2010   Ian was awarded a Certificate of Continuing Education in Local Historical Studies from the University of Essex
18 February 2010   Ian and his Battle of Ashingdon book were featured in the Evening Echo newspaper as part of the Battle of Assandun Commemoration Campaign (BASH)'s publicity programme.
8 October 2009   National Poetry Day.
1 September 2009   Launch of Ian's second poetry collection, Unspoken Understanding.
19 March 2009   Ian collected his Advanced Diploma in Local History from the Vice Chancellor of Oxford University at an Awards Ceremony at Oxford's Sheldonian Theatre.

2 October 2008   Ian was awarded an Advanced Diploma in Local History from Oxford University.

8 September 2007 Ian appeared at Grindley's bookshop in Leigh-on-Sea as part of their 'Meet the Author' day.

5 September 2007 Ian gave a presentation about the 18th-century poet William Cowper to members of the Southend Poetry Group.

26 May 2007 Ian took part in the Southchurch Book Fair.

6 March 2007 Ian took part in the Essex Book Festival, speaking on the subject of writing local history.
